We absorbed the MAURI of Marlborough with a blessing from Archdeacon Kevin Thomson at the Bragato Research Institute winery building site at the MRC Budge Street Campus. Bringing together the wairua of stones and gravels from the Wairau and Awatere rivers, interred together in the rich soils of the Opawa - a blessing for a successful future.

Celebrating 35 Years and still growing, MRC appeared in the Local Legend section of the Saturday Express on the 27 July.


The Marlborough Research Centre’s premise is simple: to provide locally based research services and technology development for the primary sector, for the future good of the region and New Zealand as a whole.

Marlborough Girls College Environmental Awards Field Day

Earlier this month we hosted the Cawthron Marlborough Environment Awards Field Day for the Marlborough Girls' College Marine Team at the Marlborough Research Centre (MRC) lecture theatre.

The students discussed their collaborative approach to improve marine protection in the Marlborough Sounds and their campaign for special legislation. They shared experiences in conversation with special guest Dr Gwen Struik, Chair of environmental watchdog Friends of Nelson Haven.

We hosted a delegation of leaders from Marlborough’s sister region of Ningxia, China recently. The officials were keen to engage with the organisations operating from the centre to learn how they can work on new opportunities related to science and technology, business and education.

Viticulture adaptation to climate change

Plant & Food Research Blenheim and the New Zealand Winegrowers Research Centre are part of the second “laboratory without walls” research project launched by New Zealand and France. This international project involves geographers, climatologists, agronomists and wine professionals to develop climate change adaptation scenarios at the vineyard level.
